An Eco problem:

A female can discard up to 16,000 pads over her lifetime. Considering that over 1,500 million females use pads and live in under resourced areas in Gauteng alone, this results in a vast stretch of chemically embedded landfill waste that will take over 500 years to decompose.

And landfill ground available in Gauteng alone is said to run out in 10 years, while Leachate seepage from landfill is endangering future water supplies and as a source of groundwater contamination in South Africa.
